Why We Love The Greek Islands!

Thousands of tourists flock to the Greek islands every year; with their beautiful coastlines, gorgeous restaurants and lively towns it’s no surprise why so many of us become attached to these beautiful holiday destinations!

The Beaches

The Ionian Islands are famous for their idyllic locations, and each of the islands are able to boast their beauty through fabulous beaches!

Since there are many hidden coves dotted around the islands, there are boat trips from resorts and harbours to these beautiful secret beaches, passing hidden coves and giving you the perfect opportunity to view the breath taking coastlines.

The Shipwreck at Navagio Beach in Zante is a famous location, and is said to be the most photographed beach in the whole of Greece. Only accessible by boat, this hidden paradise is great for exploring, and the sea is a beautiful crystal blue.

Myrtiotissa Beach, located in Corfu, has a very isolated and idyllic atmosphere. So if you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon of peace and quiet, be sure to give this beach a visit. It is surrounded by cliff-tops, vegetation and rocks which secures Myrtiotissa’s natural beauty.

Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia is a world famous stretch of sand, and we can see why! It is one of the most dramatic beaches located on the Ionian Islands. Travelling down to Myrtos beach is an incredible experience in itself, the roads wind to the bottom giving you spectacular views of the beach and sea on your journey down!

The Cuisine

The inviting tavernas provide a fantastic dining experience as they offer a unique combination of the most beautiful Mediterranean flavours, made from perfectly fresh products. Steeped in history and surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, Greece is home to some of the finest ingredients in the world.

Moussaka can be found throughout the Mediterranean, but the iconic Greek baked dish is based on layering: aubergine, minced meat, fried pureed tomato, onion, garlic, a few spices and then a little potato topped with cheese. Definitely a dish worth a try!

The Kefalonian meat pie is a delicacy which the island has become famous for. The tavernas scattered around the island often cook the pies to their own traditional recipes, which would have been passed down for generations. This beautiful dish is something you must try if you’re visiting Kefalonia this year!

Be sure not to leave your Greek location without trying the wild greens, cooked vegetables, natural yoghurt and delicious sweets! Mmmmm.

The Beautiful Coastlines

The Greek Islands offer pure beauty and simplicity. The dramatic rocky coastlines surrounded by the crystal blue sea give these favourite destinations the finest reputations for breath taking scenery.

The sandy beaches, blue sea and hot sun keep Greece a favourite amongst all of the popular destinations. The still air and stunning views makes these islands so tranquil, with the ability to throw you into an idyllic paradise.

The spectacular land and lush sea- scapes will cause you to fall in love with these islands even more. There are many view points on each island where you can stand and admire the beauty of these destinations for as long as you wish!

The Picturesque Towns

The islands are home to many beautiful towns, both old and new.  If you’re going on holiday to any of the Greek Islands, you will find many of their towns are beautifully kept, with cobbled streets and narrow stepped alleyways, accompanied with beautiful tavernas and boutique stores.

All of the main towns on each of the islands all hold their unique characteristics and qualities. Corfu has an old 16th century fortress which allows you to enjoy some spectacular views from the top, and then take a step back in time.

In Zante town there are a number of stunning old churches and museums which portray the best of the islands historical features.

The evenings are particularly attractive in the main Greek towns; with divine restaurants, glamorous shopping and beautiful harbours -all sparkled with traditional Greek ambience. What more could you want!

History and Culture

The Greek Islands are enriched in history and culture. There are old ancient monuments and sites scattered all across each of the lands and the Greek people are devoted to keeping these beautifully preserved.

Located high up into Corfu’s mountains, Old Perithia is a deserted village which provokes interest amongst many tourists. This small mysterious town will keep you fascinated by the islands history! Monuments and old villages are commonly found amongst the beautiful sites of the Ionian Islands, with a Greek taverna never too far away. They are always popular tourist attractions and are another reason we love to keep coming back to these beautiful destinations.

So these are just some of the reasons why we adore the Greek Islands. If you’re a new visitor, let these beautiful destinations live up to your expectations!
